In 1997 the law against the sale of Poitin in Ireland was revoked and Hackler was launched on St Patricks day. It takes its name from an 19th century moonshiner known as the Hackler of Grouse Hall. A small pot still distilled traditional Irish spirit made from cereals, grain, whey, sugar and potatoes.It was later withdrawn from the market in 1998 and only 15000 cases were ever produced.
