Bowmore Distillery, located on the Scottish island of Islay, has a storied history dating back to 1779, making it one of the oldest distilleries in Scotland. Founded by John Simpson, Bowmore has been crafting exceptional single malt Scotch whiskies for over two centuries.
The distillery is known for its traditional production methods, including floor malting a portion of their barley on-site. The whiskies are crafted using their own water source, the Laggan River, and some are aged in the iconic No. 1 Vaults, one of the oldest maturation warehouses in Scotland. It is described as a ‘medium’ peated whisky with a character that is more balanced than some other ‘highly’ peated whiskies from Islay. At times it can also display a very floral character reminiscent of lavender or violets.
Bowmore has released many collectable and special whiskies over the years, perhaps defined best by the highly sought after ‘Black Bowmore’ series of single malts.
